Shelly's Stuffed Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 12-14 lg cabbage leaves
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup matzoh meal
  • 1/2 cup cooked rice
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  • Remove leaves from head of cabbage carefully.
  • Place cabbage leaves in large pot, cover with water and simmer 5 minutes. Drain and cool.
  • Combine meat, matzo meal, rice, egg and salt.
  • Place heaping tablespoon of meat mixture in center of each cabbage leaf, fold in sides to cover meat, and roll.
  • Place rolls with open side down in large saucepan.
  • Combine onion, lemon juice, brown sugar, tomato sauce and water.
  • Pour combination over cabbage rolls.
  • Cover and simmer 1-1/2 hours, basting occasionally.
