Ingredients

  • 4 Bosc pears with stems, not soft
  • Water
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • ground cinnamon and nutmeg according to preference

Instructions

  • Put enough water in bottom of a pot to reach just below the bottom of a steamer basket. Add cinnamon sticks and sprinkle in ground cinnamon and nutmeg. Bring to a boil.
  • While the water is coming to a boil, peel (do not core) the pears and slice off a little from the bottom so the pears stand upright. Leave the stems attached.
  • When the water comes to a boil, put the pears upright in the steamer basket and steam for about 1 hour, or until they are tender all the way through but not mushy.
  • As on optional step, you can then remove the pears and the steamer basket then boil the seasoned water until thick enough to lightly drizzle over the pears.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

If your meal is pareve, serve plain or with non-dairy ice cream or non-dairy whipped cream.
