Ingredients
½
cup
shortening
2
cups
sugar
4
eggs, slightly beaten
1
cup
cake meal
1
tsp
salt
8 rounded
tsp
cocoa
½
cup
water or milk
1
cup
nuts, chopped pecans or walnuts. (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°.
Cream shortening in mixer.
Add sugar and mix well.
Then add eggs.
Add dry ingredients & water (or milk).
Stir in chopped nuts, if using.
Pour into a 8 x 8 pan.
Bake between 30-45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
Notes
If you keep kosher or have a dairy allergy, using shortening, like Crisco, and water rather than milk are good options.
