Buttermilk Pie

This is an uncomplicated recipe that is unusual and really delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1 10" unbaked pie shell
  • oz sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¾ oz flour
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 4 oz melted butter
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 4 egg whites

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325° F.
  • Combine sugar, salt, flour and mix well.
  • Mix slightly beaten egg yolks, melted butter, buttermilk and vanilla then blend into the sugar mixture.
  • Beat egg whites until they form moist peaks and fold into the custard mixture. Stir only until the egg whites are dissolved.
  • Pour into pie shell and bake for about 40 minutes, or until the top is crusty and brown.
