Matzah Spiced Pie for Passover

Ingredients

  • olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped fine
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp aleppo pepper
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • ¼ tsp allspice
  • 3-4 matzah boards
  • 1 egg, beaten with a fork
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Grease an 8 inch square cake pan.
  • Run hot water over matzah boards and shake off excess. Line the greased cake pan with matzah boards. Break pieces to fit.
  • Saute onion and carrots in a little olive oil until tender. Move to bowl.
  • Brown ground meat until cooked. Add remaining spices.
  • Add the onions and carrots to the meat. Press into the pan with matzah board. Brush with egg mixture just until coated.
  • Bake until browned, about 30 minutes. Check at 20 to see how it is browning.
  • You can serve this with Walnut Green Sauce
