Pickled Fish

This was my mother's recipe. I loved it as a child and I still love it now!

Ingredients

  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 heaping cup sugar
  • 1-3/4 cups vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • about 1/3 jar pickling spices
  • 4-5 lbs whole pike--scaled, gutted & cut into steaks

Instructions

  • Slice onions and cook them covered with the 2 cups water for 15 minutes.
  • Add remaining 5 ingredients and bring back to boil.
  • Gently lay fish in the pan.
  • Cook for 40 minutes.
