Sweet and Sour Meatballs

This was one of my mother's "go to" recipes. Everyone loves it!
Makes about 50 appetizer-sized meatballs or about 20 meal-sized meatballs

Ingredients
Sauce

cups
tomato juice

large
onion, sliced
1/4
cup
ketchup
1/4-1/2
cup
brown sugar
1
jar
sweet & sour cabbage (optional)
1
small
can sauerkraut
1-2
Tbsp
grape jelly
2
ginger snaps
Meatballs
1
lb
ground beef
1
egg
1/4
cup
corn flake crumbs
1/4
cup
onion, minced
2
Tbsp
water
salt, pepper, garlic salt to taste
Instructions
Sauce
Put all of the sauce ingredients in a large pot and bring to a boil.
Meatballs
Mix all of the meatball ingredients together in a large bowl.
Gently form meat mixture into meatballs, being careful not to over handle.
Add meatballs to the boiling sauce.
Simmer covered for about 1-1/2 hours.
Notes
Even better if made at least a day before serving!
